Amongst the rolling hills of the Peak District lies a very small hamlet, Hurdlow. It consists of only a few buildings mainly farm buildings and Hurdlow Grange (holiday and corporate accommodation owned by our sister company Peak Venues). Our serine location is ideal for those seeking an undisturbed Peak District experience and is also the perfect base for exploring the quaint and historical towns and villages of the Peaks.
Monyash is a quiet limestone village about 1.5 miles from The Royal Oak. It is a great location for walking, with the Limestone way passing through the village and great access to Lathkill Dale.
Longnor is an ancient village of stone houses and narrow streets, during the 18th and 19th century it was a busy market town and it's original cobbled market place and market hall still stand. It is a great starting point for many walks and hikes.
In the foothills of Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill, famous Peak District landscapes, Earl Sterndale is a prim spot for walking.
A 15 minute drive from the Oak will bring you to the historic spa town of Buxton. A lovely town with lots of character, beautiful Georgian & Victorian architecture and bustling town centre, it is definitely a must-visit when staying in the Peak District.

A 15 minute drive East will take you to the beautiful town of Bakewell. Perched upon the river Why, it is famous for it's quaint shops, large Monday market and of course the well known sweet treat.

A bit further afield, about a 25 minute drive, you will find the lovely market town of Ashbourne. Steeped in history with it's cobbled streets and over 200 listed buildings, it is a great town to explore.

A similar distance away as Ashbourne, Leek is a former textile town with historical links to the arts and crafts movement. Now-a-days it is a bustling town with a busy town centre, large array of shops and the perfect location for exploring the outdoors.

Matlock is an attractive former spa town with great shops and a fabulous park and boating lake. Just a mile and a half South you will come to Matlock Bath, known as the 'seaside of Derbyshire' it is one of Britain's first tourist destinations and maintains that quirky holiday atmosphere today.
